Harrismith Police Arrest 10 After Flour Truck Looting on N3 Near Warden

Ten suspects were arrested by the Harrismith Public Order Policing Unit following the looting of a truck carrying 10-kilogram bags of cake flour on the N3 near Warden on Wednesday, 8 October 2025.

The incident occurred when a truck transporting flour overturned. Community members from a nearby township swarmed the scene and began taking the cargo.

Police were called for backup and quickly stabilised the situation, confiscating suspected stolen property, including the flour and several vehicles allegedly used in the crime.

Those caught in possession of the goods have been charged with theft from a motor vehicle.

A similar incident occurred on the N2 northbound near Umdloti on Friday morning, when a 14-ton Hino truck carrying fruit and vegetables lost control and crashed into a concrete retaining wall and steel barrier.

The collision tore open the truck’s side tarp, spilling produce across the highway.

Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa) said the driver fled the scene, leaving the vehicle and cargo behind.

By the time officers arrived, members of the public had already started taking the fruit and vegetables. Unfortunately, no arrests were made in this case.
