Hawks in Gauteng have arrested three men aged 26, 31 and 35 for allegedly tampering with the Transnet fuel pipeline in Bronkhorstpruit on Saturday evening.
Spokesperson Colonel Katlego Mogale says the suspects were arrested in Bronkhorstspruit on Saturday as they were trying to steal fuel.
He says the Hawks received information and responded swiftly to the scene.
Colonel Mogale says when they arrived at the scene the suspects ran away but one was apprehended by security personnel.
It is believed that the remaining two suspects tried to rescue their accomplice when they too were arrested.
The suspects were driving a Black Corsa Utility Bakkie which was seized by the Hawks.
Police also confiscated a generator, heavy-duty drill and welding equipment.
The suspects are expected to appear in the Bronkhorstpruit Magistrates’ Court in Gauteng on Tuesday.
