Hawks deny any official arrests, Promenade Mall robbery

CAPE TOWN – Hawks officials are investigating an armed robbery that took place at a Mitchells Plain mall.

A gang of about six men hit the Liberty Promenade Mall yesterday.

It’s believed the robbers posed as customers and held up two security guards.

They then fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money.

The City of Cape Town says metro police officials caught two of the suspects yesterday.

However, according to Hawks spokesperson Lloyd Ramovha no one has officially been arrested.

“We can confirm that we are investigating a cash in transit heist that took place at a Mitchells Plain mall. According to information available at this stage, it appears that six armed suspects pointed the guards with firearms disarming them in the process.”
