Hawks seize mandrax and dagga hidden in truck at Oshoek Port of Entry

The Hawks have arrested two South African citizens after a cross-border truck was found carrying mandrax tablets and dagga concealed inside boxes and plastic bags at the Oshoek Port of Entry on Wednesday, 12 November 2025.

According to authorities, members of SAPS stationed at the border had stopped the South African registered truck as it entered from the Kingdom of Eswatini. After noticing suspicious packaging, they called in the Hawks’ Secunda based Serious Organised Crime Investigation unit to assist.

A full search of the truck uncovered mandrax tablets and dagga stashed inside boxes as well as plastic bags. The haul is valued at an estimated R900 000. Officers also found R3200 in South African currency and 4600 Emalangeni on the suspects.

The driver, aged 33, and his crew member, aged 40, are permanent South African citizens originally from Lesotho. Both were arrested on the spot.
