If you’re hauling loads through KZN this week, consider this your official heads-up! A proper double cold front is about to hit, and it’s bringing snow, slippery roads, and freezing temps with it.
According to the KZN Cooperative Governance Department, disaster management teams are already on high alert.
Spokesperson Senzelwe Mzila confirmed that two cold fronts are expected to sweep across Mzansi, affecting most provinces.
“Two cold fronts will bring challenging weather conditions to large parts of the country, with cooler temperatures anticipated,” Mzila said.
Snowfall is likely in high-lying areas from Wednesday, so think Van Reenen Pass, Kokstad, and Nottingham Road, just to name a few.
MEC Bongi Sithole-Moloi has assured residents that disaster teams are ready to respond to any emergencies, but for us behind the wheel of 18-wheelers, prevention is always better than getting rescued.

Here are SA Trucker’s cold-weather tips to keep you safe out there:
❄️ Plan your route – Check weather updates before you pull out the yard. Avoid mountain passes if possible.
🧊 Slow down on descents – Cold roads = less grip. Go easy on brakes and don’t rely only on the retarder.
🔦 Do a proper light check – Fog and snow reduce visibility. Make sure your lights and reflectors are working.
🔋 Test your battery – Cold weather zaps weak batteries. Get it tested before hitting long-distance.
🧥 Pack warm gear – Extra jackets, gloves and thermal wear could be a lifesaver if you get stuck overnight.
Mzila urged everyone to stay tuned to official weather alerts, but truckers know word-of-mouth and WhatsApp groups are just as important.
If you see something hectic on the road, let your fellow drivers know by quickly informing SA Trucker.
This cold front is no joke, guys. Stay alert, stay warm, and most importantly, don’t risk it for the load. Rather arrive late than not at all.
