Truckers and motorists alike, be warned — Durban is taking a proper beating this morning with heavy rain pounding most of the KwaZulu Natal coastal belt and inland areas.
The rain has turned many roads across Durban into rivers, making driving conditions extremely dangerous.
From early Friday, the N3 near Brickfield has been flooded, the N2 southbound is dotted with massive puddles, and there’s been a multi-vehicle crash on the M4 near the Riverside off-ramp in Durban North, reportedly due to water build-up.
ALS Paramedics’ Garrith Jamieson has warned everyone on the road to drive with extreme caution. “If you see water pooling or a flooded section, don’t risk it – especially low-lying bridges or roads.”

Other affected routes include:
– N2/M19 Umgeni intersection
– North Coast Road
– M13 Fields Hill
– South Coast Road
– M7 Edwin Swales Road
– Berea roads
– Adams Road in Amanzimtoti
– M4 southbound before Jacobs
PT Alarms and emergency crews are out in full force, keeping an eye on flooded hotspots. eThekwini Fire Department is also checking up on homes in areas like Sydenham.
The SA Weather Service has issued a Level 4 Yellow Warning for disruptive rainfall, expecting 60–80% chance of rain over the coast and up to 60% inland. Districts like Ugu, Ilembe, King Cetshwayo and eThekwini are in the firing line.
Truckers, take it easy out there. Rather be late than never arrive. Pull over and wait it out if need be. Stay safe, stay alert.
