Hijacking gone wrong leads to crash, 5 killed

Limpopo – A truck hijacking gone wrong has been blamed for a fatal crash that killed five people on Saturday morning at Modimolle mountain.

The multiple fatality crash occurred at 01h30 on Saturday 10 November 2018 on the N1 at Modimolle Mountain, Limpopo.

A Freightliner truck, a Toyota Tazz, Hilux and a Mercedes Benz Viano were involved in the multiple vehicle crash that resulted in 5 fatalities and approximately 15 injured persons.

It is alleged that the truck had stopped on the side of the road when two armed men approached the driver trying to rob him.

The truck driver drove off in his bid to escape the alleged robbers unfortunately a Toyota Tazz which was just approaching hit the trailer. It veered off it’s lane collided with the Hilux and the Viano in the middle of the road.

Five people died on the scene and fifteen others were injured.

Modimolle police are investigating the crash.
