Hundreds Bid Farewell to Dontrans Founders Donovan and Racheal Chetty

Durban – The Durban trucking community came to a standstill on Friday afternoon as Donovan and Racheal Chetty, the beloved husband-and-wife team behind Dontrans, were laid to rest following their tragic passing in a house fire earlier this week.

A heartfelt funeral procession, led by trucks sounding their horns in tribute, rolled slowly through Clairwood, where the Dontrans yard is based.

Truckers, friends, family, and colleagues lined the streets to pay their respects before the cortege moved on to the Durban Christian Centre, where a moving funeral service was held. The couple was later buried at Mobeni Heights Cemetery.

UD Trucks Pinetown shared a touching message:

“We are deeply saddened to hear of the tragic loss of Donovan and Racheal Chetty of Dontrans. On behalf of the entire UD Trucks Pinetown team, we extend our sincere condolences to the Chetty family, friends, and colleagues during this incredibly difficult time.

Dontrans has been a valued and longstanding customer, and Donovan and Rachel will be remembered not only for their commitment to the industry but also for the warmth and integrity they brought to every interaction.”

The Chettys built Dontrans into a respected name in logistics, and their legacy will be remembered not just in the company they founded, but in the lives they touched through generosity, faith, and dedication.

Our thoughts remain with the Chetty family, their staff, and the many who had the honour of knowing Donovan and Racheal. May their souls rest in eternal peace.
