An innocent truck driver lost his life on Monday 15 July 2024 when fleeing hijackers collided with his truck on Baden Powell Drive in Cape Town.
Three of the hijackers also died in the collision.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg confirmed that Mitchell’s Plain police have registered four counts of culpable homicide following the fatal crash.
The incident began at Monwabizi Beach, where two off-duty police officers were sitting in their vehicle when it was hijacked by armed suspects.
The hijackers sped away in the stolen vehicle, only to crash into the truck a short distance later.
The collision resulted in the immediate death of the truck driver, along with three of the hijackers.

Medical personnel who arrived at the scene declared all four individuals deceased.
The identities of the victims have not been released.
The circumstances surrounding this tragic incident are currently under investigation, with authorities working to piece together the events leading up to the fatal collision.
