Lebombo Operations Running Smoothly as Holiday Movements Increase

Operations at the Lebombo Port of Entry are progressing smoothly, with no significant incidents or challenges reported, according to Dr. Michael Masiapato, Commissioner of the Border Management Authority (BMA).

In a statement issued by the BMA, Dr. Masiapato confirmed that the processing of cargo and travellers continues without disruption, ensuring a seamless flow of goods and people.

“We are working with other law enforcement authorities and stakeholders such as the South African Revenue Service (SARS) to ensure that both trade and travel through Lebombo are handled with maximum efficiency and minimal delays during this high-demand period,” Dr. Masiapato said.

The recent increase in holiday traffic has seen over 52,000 travellers processed at the Lebombo Port of Entry between Friday, 13 December and Sunday, 15 December.

This surge in movement is indicative of the peak travel period as South Africa heads into the festive season.

Truck backlog cleared

“Operations at Lebombo have been running smoothly, and we have cleared the backlog of trucks that had built up on the N4, as well as the traffic along the corridor leading to the Port of Entry,” Dr. Masiapato added.

With holiday travel and trade set to increase further, the BMA remains vigilant and fully prepared to handle growing volumes. The Authority is committed to providing timely updates and urges the public to continue adhering to border regulations for smooth operations.

The BMA also encouraged travellers and stakeholders to report any suspicious activity at the port via their toll-free hotline: 0801 229 019.
