A young man from Delft died last week after falling off a moving cooldrink delivery truck he was allegedly trying to steal from.
The incident occurred at the intersection of Voorbrug and Delft Main Roads — an area truck drivers know all too well as a hotspot for attacks on delivery vehicles.
According to reports, the man was part of a group that had jumped onto the truck in an attempt to grab crates of cooldrink. While the vehicle was still moving, he reportedly lost his balance and fell, suffering fatal injuries.
The Delft Community Policing Forum (CPF) voiced concerns over young people being drawn into these criminal acts. “This is a clear sign that more must be done to steer our youth away from crime,” a CPF representative said.

Local truck drivers, however, view the area as one of the most dangerous places to make deliveries. Many report being regularly targeted by brazen criminals who hop onto moving trucks, slash curtains, or force open trailer doors in broad daylight.
Captain FC van Wyk from SAPS confirmed that a culpable homicide case has been opened. No arrests have been made, but investigations are ongoing.
While the CPF has called the death a tragedy, truckers see it as a grim reminder of the real dangers they face on the road — and the growing desperation of those targeting them.
