Man Killed After Crashing into Stationary Truck on Edwin Swales Drive, Durban

Durban – A man in his 30s was killed in the early hours of Monday morning after crashing his Toyota Etios into the back of a stationary truck parked on the side of Edwin Swales Drive, heading towards the Bluff in Durban.

According to ALS Paramedics, the fatal accident occurred just before 5:30 am. Paramedics arrived at the scene to find the driver had succumbed to his injuries, while his passenger, also a male in his 30s, was critically injured and severely entrapped in the wreckage.

“The light motor vehicle had two occupants, who were found severely entrapped. The eThekwini Fire Department assisted ALS Paramedics to free the men,” said ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson.

Unfortunately, the driver had sustained major injuries and was declared deceased at the scene. The passenger was stabilised on-site by advanced life support paramedics before being rushed to hospital in critical condition.

It’s not known if the driver was in the truck or not.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash, as the circumstances leading to the collision remain unclear. Police were on the scene to assess the situation and gather evidence.
