Durban – A man was killed on Sunday night in Clairwood after a tragic and bizarre incident involving a container truck at a busy traffic light intersection.
The incident unfolded at the junction of South Coast Road and Trent Road, where a truck had stopped at a red robot.
According to eyewitnesses, the man attempted to slide underneath the truck’s trailer as it idled at the light.
Moments later, the robot turned green and the truck driver, unaware of the man’s presence beneath his rig, started moving forward.
The trailer’s wheels reportedly rolled over the man, leaving him with severe injuries.
Horrified bystanders watched helplessly as the man lay groaning in pain in the road.

Montclair SAPS officers were quick to respond to the scene and found the man still alive but in agony.
Sadly, when paramedics eventually arrived, they confirmed that the man had succumbed to his injuries.
It remains unclear why the man tried to crawl under the vehicle, but authorities suspect he may have been trying to take a shortcut or was possibly under the influence.
Police have opened an inquest docket and are investigating further.
The truck driver was reportedly traumatised by the unfortunate incident.
