A Brits man was shot dead and his wife was injured when they stopped to check a flat tyre on the Bakwena N4 after running over stones placed on the roadway on Saturday night.

The victim, identified as Juandre Kidson (25) and his wife Johanette, pulled over on the Bakwena N4 with a punctured tyre after driving over rocks placed on the road by robbers.

A group of robbers attacked the couple who had their nine month old baby with them, the baby was not injured.

The family of three was driving towards Brits in their Hyundai sedan around 20:00 when they drove over rocks near the R512/Randburg exit.

According to police spokesperson, Captain Aafje Botma, Kidson stopped to replace a punctured tyre and while he was busy, three men approached. The men, armed with firearms, overpowered and shot him in the head and his wife in the hand. The suspects then robbed the man of his cellular phone. The baby was not hurt during the incident, she said.

The victim was certified dead at the scene while his wife and baby were taken to hospital for medical treatment.

Police are investigating murder and attempted murder cases and no one has been arrested at this stage.

In a similar incident at 01:15 on Saturday morning, a man stopped on the highway near the M17/GaRankuwa exit at De Wildt to change a tyre after driving over rocks.

Robbers appeared and shot and killed him.

In both incidents, the victims were robbed of their belongings.
