Harare – A tragic accident occurred Tuesday morning at Manyame Bridge along Seke Road just outside Harare, where a Chitungwiza-bound commuter omnibus (kombi) collided with a runaway haulage truck, resulting in multiple fatalities and injuries.
According to eyewitnesses at the scene, the haulage truck is believed to have burst a tyre before losing control and veering onto the oncoming lane. It then crashed into the kombi head-on before overturning and landing on top of it, crushing the minibus and its occupants underneath.
“It was sudden. The truck just jumped the curb and landed right on the kombi,” said a visibly shaken witness.
Rescue efforts are currently underway, with emergency services battling to retrieve trapped passengers from beneath the wreckage. Initial reports suggest that nearly all the passengers in the kombi were killed on impact, with only one survivor pulled from the mangled wreckage and rushed to the hospital in critical condition.
