Mookgophong – A serious collision between a South African Police Service (SAPS) prisoner transport vehicle and an articulated truck has brought traffic to a standstill on the R101 between Mookgophong and Naboomspruit in Limpopo on Thursday morning.
Authorities were forced to close a section of the road to allow a medical helicopter to land.
According to early information, the SAPS vehicle was carrying prisoners when it collided with the truck. Several passengers are reported to have sustained injuries, with some believed to be in a serious condition.
At this stage, the number of fatalities and injuries has not been confirmed by police. Emergency services, including paramedics, police, and fire crews, are on the scene providing medical assistance.
Motorists have been advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes while rescue operations continue.
The cause of the collision is not yet known, and SAPS has indicated that a full investigation will be conducted.
