The owner of MIT Global, Mohammed Aleem Sheik, has tragically passed away following a devastating explosion at his company’s premises in Mobeni, south of Durban.
According to information available at this stage, the incident occurred on Monday night while a petrol tanker belonging to a Durban-based petroleum transport operator was undergoing a flushing process at the MIT Global facility.
According to preliminary information received by SA Trucker, it is alleged that Mohammed was on top of the tanker at the time of the incident.
Flammable fuel vapours are believed to have been present during the flushing process.
The precise cause of the explosion remains under investigation, with authorities yet to confirm what may have triggered the blast.
Emergency services were dispatched to the scene, and due to the severity of his injuries, Mohammed was airlifted to hospital for urgent medical treatment. Despite efforts by medical teams, he sadly succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday.
At this stage, the full circumstances surrounding the explosion have not yet been officially confirmed.
Authorities are still investigating the incident, and no formal conclusions have been released regarding the exact cause or compliance aspects linked to the flushing operation.

In a message shared by the family, they confirmed Mohammed’s passing and paid tribute to a man described as a devoted husband, a loving father to his son, and a hardworking individual who took immense pride in his work and the relationships he built with clients.
The family further stated that arrangements related to Mohammed’s business affairs will be handled with care during this difficult time.
