Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane looks set to walk away with the coach of the year accolade at the end of the current season.

The 51-year-old coach clinched his second league title in three years when his team beat neighbours, the University of Pretoria, on Wednesday night.

With two rounds of matches remaining, Sundowns who currently have 65 points could set a new record in top flight football of winning the league with the most number of points.

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane says, “We won 20 games now … when we won the league and we got the same results of points. But we still have two games to play so I think there’s an improvement on our side. That’s why Khama [Billiat] is talking about breaking the record. If we get 65 [points] we [have] under achieved [because that] is the same as we did, so we need to try and get more than 65 points. I know chiefs got more but [are] we competing [against] our own record.”

Player of the month for March and April, Billiat, is the frontrunner to be voted player of the season.
Mamelodi Sundowns playmaker Khama Billiat says, “Right now I have won some trophies and this is what a footballer always want to [achieve] and yeah I’m enjoying football right now. I hope I will keep on enjoying with the team.”

Despite all the achievements in domestic football, Mosimane’s ultimate dream is to conquer the African continent.

“Sundowns is a team that has ambitions … they want to play in the champions league. First year we went to champions league which is very good, this year we want to [CAF] Champions League and next year we going again,” adds Mosimane.

Sundowns’ next tie is their CAF Confederation Cup match against Madeama Sporting Club of Ghana on Saturday evening.
