Multiple People Injured in Taxi and Bakkie Crash on N3 at Ashburton

Several people were injured on Wednesday morning when a taxi collided head-on with a bakkie on the N3 near Ashburton.

According to initial reports, the taxi experienced a tyre blowout, causing the driver to lose control and crash through construction barriers before colliding with the bakkie heading southbound.

Roland Robertson, spokesperson for Midlands EMS, confirmed that their teams are on-site attending to the serious accident. “Authorities are on the scene, and multiple people are in serious condition,” he stated.

Garrith Jamieson, ALS Paramedics director, said their Pietermaritzburg crew is also present, working alongside emergency services to assist the injured. “It’s a major accident involving several vehicles, and we’re dealing with multiple casualties,” he said.

Emergency teams have been called in from various parts of KwaZulu-Natal as more ambulances and life support paramedics are dispatched to assist.

Motorists have been urged to avoid the N3 heading towards Durban as the road is completely closed.

Smaller vehicles are being diverted onto the R103, while trucks remain stacked at the scene, causing significant traffic delays.
