The N1 highway near Kroonstad has reopened following a dramatic incident involving a truck carrying explosives that caught fire.
The blaze, which occurred approximately 10 kilometres north of Kroonstad, also involved multiple light motor vehicles and caused significant disruption on one of South Africa’s busiest routes.
Emergency services, including Fire Services, worked tirelessly through the night to contain the fire and ensure the scene was safe for traffic.
Motorists travelling from Kroonstad were diverted to the R721 Vredefort route, while those from Koppies were redirected to the R82, Rooiwal, and Heuningspruit routes before reconnecting to the N1.
