Traffic has come to a complete standstill on the N10 this afternoon after a serious crash involving two trucks and a light motor vehicle about 30km before Cookhouse from the Port Elizabeth side.
According to early reports, the accident involves an interlink from a moving company and a livestock interlink. Both rigs came to rest across the roadway, blocking the entire route and leaving motorists stranded in long queues on both sides of the crash scene.
Emergency services are currently on the site and paramedics are still assessing the situation. At this stage, there is no confirmed information about injuries or fatalities.
The circumstances leading to the collision remain unclear, but truckers stuck in the backlog say the scene looks extremely chaotic, with debris scattered across the roadway.
With both lanes completely obstructed, traffic is heavily backed up and drivers are being advised to remain patient and avoid the area if possible. No official diversion route has been confirmed yet.
Locals who usually travel this stretch of road daily are warning that the backlog is growing fast due to the narrow nature of the route and limited shoulder space. It could take hours to clear the scene.
