Traffic on the N2 has been brought to a standstill a few kilometres past Itshelejuba towards Pongola this afternoon following a serious crash involving a tanker truck and a double-cab bakkie.
Emergency responders on the scene have confirmed that there are fatalities, but the number of people killed or injured has not yet been established.
In a secondary incident near the crash site, a pedestrian was also knocked down, further complicating rescue and recovery efforts.
Authorities have closed the road while emergency services attend to the scene, and motorists are urged to exercise extreme caution when approaching the area or to seek alternative routes where possible.
