Truckers driving through the Winelands today, take serious note – the N2 between Grabouw and Botrivier has been blocked off due to violent protest action, sparked by a community-led Emergency Shutdown.
According to eyewitnesses and officials, the protest began early Monday morning in the Knoflokskraal area, where locals from surrounding communities – including Pine Valley, Kluitjieskraal, and Wolseley – responded to a public call for a total shutdown. Protestors have barricaded roads, burnt tyres, and stoned passing vehicles, forcing authorities to close the N2 in both directions.
The reason behind the shutdown? Residents say they are fed up with ongoing extortion, brutal murders, rape, illegal taxi operations, and what they call the unchecked presence of illegal foreign nationals in their communities. The message is loud and clear:
“Our town is under siege — and we will no longer remain silent while innocent lives are lost and lawlessness spreads.”
Watch: Protesting Truck Drivers Block the N3 at Roadside/Reitz Interchange
Despite a short-lived reopening around 08:30, law enforcement remains on scene, and SA Trucker strongly advises you to avoid the area until it’s properly stabilised.
Recommended Detours for Truckers:
- From Botrivier: Take the R44 to Kleinmond via Clarence Drive.
- From Grabouw: Use the R321 through Villiersdorp, connecting to the R43 toward Caledon.
Authorities are also turning vehicles back at Botrivier and redirecting them through Villiersdorp.
What Truckers Must Know:
- Protests are unpredictable – don’t take chances.
- Avoid any movement through Grabouw, Botrivier, or Wolseley for now.
- Let your boss or controller know about possible delays.
- Prioritise safety over schedule – rather detour and arrive in one piece.
SA Trucker will keep you posted with real-time updates as the situation develops. For now, vaya round, not through.
SA Trucker – Keeping you moving, safely.
