Traffic on the N2 has ground to a halt this afternoon after a collision between a truck and a light motor vehicle about 6km south of Hluhluwe. The crash, which occurred around 15h30 on Tuesday afternoon, caused the truck to overturn, blocking all lanes and spilling its load of coal across the roadway.
Emergency services and recovery crews from SM Towing are currently on scene, but officials warn that the cleanup is expected to take several hours due to the scale of the spill. The coal scattered across the road has made recovery operations far more complicated, significantly delaying the reopening of the route.
Fortunately, no fatalities have been reported in the crash. Authorities on site have urged motorists, especially truck drivers, to remain patient as the situation is brought under control.

Light vehicles are being diverted along alternative routes, and officials are on the ground directing traffic. However, heavy trucks remain stacked on the scene with no available detour at this stage.
Motorists travelling through northern KwaZulu-Natal are advised to avoid the area if possible or prepare for significant delays while clean-up and recovery efforts continue.
