Motorists using the N2 tonight, take note – SANRAL has announced a full southbound closure between Joyner Road and Moss Kolnik Drive from 8pm to 5am for critical repair work on the Mbokodweni River Bridge.
According to the South African National Roads Agency SOC Ltd (SANRAL), this closure is necessary to carry out emergency bridge jacking work. It’s part of a broader effort to ensure the safety and integrity of the bridge following recent structural concerns.
All southbound traffic will be diverted via the Joyner Road offramp, with a temporary detour in place for the duration of the closure. Expect some delays, especially if you’re heading to time-sensitive spots like King Shaka International Airport or the Durban port.
“Motorists are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and allow extra travel time, particularly when heading to key travel hubs such as airports. We urge all road users to exercise caution, adhere to traffic signs, and comply with speed limits while approaching and navigating the construction zone,” said SANRAL KwaZulu-Natal’s Project Manager, Serisha Sukraj.
While the detour will be clearly marked, SA Trucker recommends giving yourself at least an extra 30 minutes to avoid missing appointments or delivery slots.
Keep your eyes open, drive safe, and spread the word to your fellow road warriors. We’ll update you on any changes.
