A serious crash involving two trucks has brought traffic to a complete standstill on the N3 at the foot of Van Reenen Pass this morning.
According to an alert from N3 Toll Concession (N3TC), both trucks caught alight after the crash and are currently blocking the entire roadway.
All emergency services are on scene working to extinguish the blaze and clear the wreckage, but as it stands, the N3 is totally closed in both directions.
The cause of the crash is still unknown at this stage.
Traffic is being stacked on-site, with delays expected to stretch for kilometres as authorities deal with the fiery mess. Road users are being urged to avoid the area and delay travel plans if possible.
Van Reenen Pass is notorious for incidents like this, especially with the heavy volume of truck traffic using the N3 corridor between Johannesburg and Durban. Drivers are reminded to remain patient and follow instructions from traffic officials on the scene.
