The N3 Toll Route has been completely shut down this evening following a serious multi-vehicle collision near Van Reenen Pass. The incident was reported at approximately 19h30 at position marker N3-6X 54.0 N, prompting an immediate full closure of both carriageways to allow emergency services safe access to the scene.
According to early information, 3 trucks and a bakkie are believed to be involved, although the exact number and the extent of injuries remain unconfirmed at this stage. Emergency response teams, including paramedics, traffic officials and recovery operators, are currently working under difficult conditions, with heavy rainfall and severely congested traffic complicating access.
Motorists travelling in both directions are advised to expect extensive delays and prolonged stationary traffic. Authorities strongly recommend avoiding the area and delaying travel plans if possible, particularly for long-distance freight operators heading through the pass tonight. Road users already caught within the closure are urged to remain patient, keep emergency lanes clear for responders, and follow instructions from on-site officials.
The incident has resulted in significant congestion building rapidly on either side of the pass, and visibility in the area is reported to be poor as rain continues to fall. The N3 Toll Concession (N3TC) has emphasised the critical importance of exercising caution and adhering to safety protocols.
