N3 Closure on 10 and 12 September 2024 – Full Schedule and Times

Motorists using the N3 are reminded that sections of the highway will be fully closed on Tuesday, 10 September and Thursday, 12 September 2024, to allow for blasting at the Ashburton Interchange. This is part of SANRAL’s ongoing N3 Ashburton to Market Road upgrade project.

The closure will occur between the Ashburton and Market Road Interchanges. Pope Ellis Drive, from the R103 intersection to Ashburton Interchange, will also be closed in the vicinity of the blasting.

Here’s the schedule for both days:

10 September 2024 – Tuesday

– 14h30: Close N3 and secondary road, followed by blasting.
– 14h30 to 14h55: Clear debris.
– 14h55 to 15h00: Final road safety check.
– 15h00: Reopen N3 and secondary road.

12 September 2024 – Thursday

– 14h30: Close N3 and secondary road, followed by blasting.
– 14h30 to 14h55: Clear debris.
– 14h55 to 15h00: Final road safety check.
– 15h00: Reopen N3 and secondary road.

Detours and Delays Expected

Motorists will be diverted via the R103 route during the closure, but expect delays as the R103 cannot handle the full volume of traffic typically seen on the N3. The Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) will be on-site to assist with the traffic diversion.

Please note: Weather conditions may cause changes to the schedule. If so, SANRAL will issue an updated notice.

Motorists are urged to plan their journeys in advance and adjust their departure times. SANRAL thanks all road users for their patience and apologises for any inconvenience caused.

Plan ahead and drive safe!
