N3 Pietermaritzburg Bound Closed After Three-Truck Pile-Up Near Ashburton

The N3 Pietermaritzburg bound carriageway has been closed following a serious three-truck collision just after Lion Park, before the Ashburton off-ramp.

According to information from the scene, the trucks collided in what appears to be a heavy impact crash, leaving one of the drivers severely entrapped inside his cab. Emergency services were quick to respond, with ALS Paramedics arriving on scene to stabilise the injured while Fire and Rescue teams worked to free the trapped driver from the wreckage.

The extent of the driver’s injuries has not yet been confirmed, but sources describe the situation as critical. The scene remains active as rescue operations continue.

Traffic heading towards Pietermaritzburg has been brought to a complete standstill. Motorists are being diverted onto the R102 in an attempt to ease congestion, however trucks are stacked for kilometres approaching the crash site. Delays are expected to be significant as authorities clear the roadway and conduct their investigation.

Authorities have urged drivers to approach the area with extreme caution and to consider alternative routes where possible. More details will be shared as they become available.
