Traffic is once again moving on the N3 Toll Route near Swinburne in the Free State after all lanes were reopened following this morning’s fatal crash involving a minibus taxi and a truck.
According to N3TC, the collision happened at around 06h30 between Van Reenen and Montrose. It claimed the lives of eight people and caused major disruptions on one of South Africa’s busiest transport corridors.
Emergency services and law enforcement were on the scene for several hours, clearing debris and assisting the injured.
In a statement issued at 11h40, N3 Toll Concession (N3TC) confirmed that all lanes have now been reopened to traffic. However, motorists are advised to expect continued congestion and delays until the heavy traffic backlog has been cleared.
“N3TC appreciates the patience and understanding of all road users under these difficult circumstances and extends its gratitude to members of the Road Incident Management System who responded to the crash scene,” the statement said.
Authorities are urging drivers to continue exercising caution and to share the road responsibly as normal traffic flow is gradually restored.
