N3 Southbound Closed at Cato Ridge After Serious Truck Crash

The N3 southbound is completely closed at Cato Ridge following a serious truck crash just after the BP Oasis in the early hours of this Friday morning.

According to Road Angels SA, the closure began at around 00h30 as emergency services worked to free the driver and his passenger trapped in the wreckage. The rescue operation has been described as a very delicate process due to the extent of the damage.

Once the occupants are safely extricated, authorities will begin removing the wreckage before reopening the road. By 05h10, the N3 Durbanbound remained closed, with traffic being diverted off at the Cato Ridge offramp through Inchanga and rejoining the freeway at Hammersdale.

The crash scene is expected to cause major delays as the morning peak traffic approaches, with congestion likely to build quickly on alternative routes. Motorists travelling from Pietermaritzburg towards Durban are advised to plan ahead, expect significant delays, and consider using other routes where possible.

Authorities have not yet confirmed the cause of the crash or the extent of injuries sustained by those involved. Updates will follow as more information becomes available.
