Motorists travelling along the N3 Toll Route this coming weekend are advised to plan ahead, as a temporary closure is scheduled at the Balgowan Interchange near Bosch Hoek to allow for urgent bridge repair work.
According to the N3 Toll Concession (N3TC), the freeway will be closed in both directions at the interchange (Exit 125) between 08:00 and 17:00 on Saturday, 26 July 2025. This is to safely remove a damaged concrete beam from the overpass bridge.
“All traffic will be diverted off and back onto the N3 using the ramps at the Balgowan Interchange,” confirmed Thania Dhoogra, operations manager and spokesperson for N3TC. “The closure is necessary to accommodate heavy lifting equipment, including two large cranes, required to remove the damaged beam.”
Dhoogra added that law enforcement personnel, supported by N3TC Route Services, will be on-site to manage traffic flow and assist motorists throughout the day.
“We appeal to all road users to be extra cautious, to obey posted signage, and to follow the directions of traffic officers. This is vital for everyone’s safety while this critical work is underway,” she said.
N3TC warns that the repair operation is weather-dependent and hinges on the availability of the specialised cranes. If any unforeseen circumstances arise, the planned closure may have to be postponed.
