Pietermaritzburg – A delivery truck carrying a load of alcohol overturned on the N3 near the Merrivale off-ramp near Howick, heading towards Pietermaritzburg, and in true Mzansi fashion, the local community wasted no time helping themselves to the “blessings”.
Before authorities could even respond to the crash, dozens of looters swarmed the scene, turning the busy highway into a makeshift tavern stockpile.
Bottles of beer were seen being carted away in wheelbarrows, shopping trolleys, and even on heads, as the festive frenzy unfolded.
The cause of the crash is still unknown, but early reports suggest the truck may have lost control on the curve just before the off-ramp.
No injuries have been reported at this stage.

It’s not the first time such a scene has played out on South African roads, and sadly, it won’t be the last.
