South African motorists are set to get some relief at the pumps this month as the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy announced fuel price cuts effective from Wednesday, 5 November 2025.
The department confirmed that both grades of petrol (93 and 95) will decrease by 51 cents per litre, while diesel users will benefit from a smaller reduction of 19 to 21 cents per litre, depending on the grade.
The adjustments come after a month of fluctuating global oil prices and a relatively stable rand. Brent crude traded between $58 and $68 a barrel during October, with prices easing toward the end of the month. Meanwhile, the rand averaged R17.29 to the dollar, slightly stronger than the previous month’s R17.48.
According to the department, the combined effect of lower international oil prices and a firmer rand led to a solid over-recovery, resulting in the price cuts. The Slate Levy on petrol and diesel remains unchanged at 0.00 cents per litre.

While the cuts may offer some short-term breathing room for road users, analysts warn that volatility in global markets could still influence future price movements as tensions in major oil-producing regions persist.
For now, though, it’s a welcome drop for South Africans heading into the festive season.
