October Mobility Month: Free Vehicle Safety Checks in Western Cape

The Western Cape Government is giving motorists a safety boost this October with free vehicle inspections at selected testing centres across the province. The initiative, aimed particularly at scholar transport and public transport operators, is part of the government’s ongoing commitment to road safety.

Qualified examiners will conduct checks on key vehicle safety components such as tyres, brake lights, suspension, and wipers. Vehicles found with defects will receive a printed report highlighting issues that need attention. Motorists are encouraged to have any problems repaired to ensure their own safety and that of other road users.

It is important to note that these checks are not full roadworthy tests. Driver licences will not be examined for fines or warrants; the inspections are purely to assess whether vehicles are safe to drive.

The free checks will be available at the following centres on 14–16 October and 21–23 October from 08:00 to 15:00:

Western Cape Mobility Minister Isaac Sileku urged motorists to take advantage of the service. “These checks give motorists peace of mind before setting off on their journeys. Too many drivers experience mechanical problems on highways and busy roads. This initiative helps reduce that risk. By working together, we can prevent crashes caused by avoidable mechanical failures and make our roads safer for everyone,” he said.
