An off-duty truck driver tragically lost his life after his white VW Polo plunged off a bridge, dropping more than 60 metres into the river below on the R102 near Maidstone in Tongaat on Friday afternoon.
The incident occurred on 6 September 2024, leaving his peers in Durban trucking in shock.
The deceased, Mfundo Ngeleka, well-known among his peers, had worked for several trucking companies throughout his career, including SK Trucking, Spar DC KZN and most recently, Overnight Logistics.
Colleagues described him as a seasoned driver who was dedicated to his job and had a strong reputation for his skills on the road.

According to their report, the driver appeared to have lost control of the vehicle before veering off the bridge.
The car landed on its roof in the river below, killing him instantly.
Rescuers confirmed there were no other passengers in the vehicle.
Our deepest sympathies go out to his loved ones during this difficult time.
