pretoria truck crash

Pretoria – One person was killed when a truck collided with a Toyota Avanza in Pretoria North which left the trucker entrapped in his truck.

Emergency services on the scene had to make use of the Jaws of Life to free the driver of the truck.

Paramedics from Ambu-link and Best Care ambulance services, as well as other emergency vehicles, responded to the accident at the corner of Rachel de Beer and Jan van Riebeeck streets.

The truck driver reportedly first collided with another vehicle before smashing into the wall.

“The truck first hit a Toyota Avanza before it collided with a wall, a palisade, and another wall before coming to a standstill,” said Albert Jansen van Nieuwenhuizen from Ambu-Link.

On arrival, paramedics found the driver stuck in the truck’s wreckage.

Tshwane emergency services had to use the so-called “Jaws of Life” to free the driver of the truck.

“The truck driver sustained serious injuries and was declared dead on scene,” said Albert Jansen van Nieuwenhuizen.

A passenger in the truck and the driver of the Toyota were treated on the scene for minor injuries before they were taken to hospital for further medical treatment.
