A tragic crash on the N1 just before the Verkeerdevlei Toll Plaza claimed the life of one person and left 30 others injured early Saturday morning. The collision involved a cross-border bus from Zimbabwe and a side tipper truck travelling from the Winburg direction.
According to witnesses, the bus was stationary on the emergency lane when the side tipper truck ploughed into the back of it. The impact was so severe that the bus overturned, resulting in the death of one passenger on the scene.
Emergency services rushed to the site and treated multiple passengers for injuries ranging from minor to serious. Paramedics confirmed that 30 people had been hurt in the crash, including the driver of the truck, who survived but sustained injuries.
The exact cause of the crash is still under investigation. Authorities have cordoned off the area for forensic investigations, and traffic was heavily affected throughout the morning.

“This is a devastating scene,” said one of the first responders. “It’s a miracle more people weren’t killed with the way that bus flipped.”
