A tragic head-on collision between a Greyhound bus and a VW Tiago claimed one life and left 32 others injured late on Tuesday night on the N6, at the foot of Penhoek Pass between Komani and Jamestown.
The crash occurred at approximately 22:30 on Tuesday night. Emergency services responded swiftly and upon arrival found the driver of the VW Tiago trapped inside the wreckage.
Despite efforts to free him, he had already succumbed to his injuries and was declared dead on the scene.
According to emergency personnel, one patient sustained critical injuries and was transported to Frontier Hospital in Komani for urgent treatment. The remaining 31 injured bus passengers were assessed on site for various minor to moderate injuries but declined transportation to hospital.
Traffic was temporarily disrupted while rescue and recovery operations were conducted, and authorities worked to clear debris from the roadway.
The circumstances leading up to the collision remain unclear at this stage. Police have launched investigations to determine the cause, including whether road conditions, fatigue, mechanical failure or human error may have contributed to the crash.

Provincial transport officials have expressed concern over the frequency of serious accidents on major intercity routes as festive-season travel begins to intensify. Motorists and public transport operators have been urged to exercise caution and adhere to safe driving practices when navigating mountain passes and high-risk corridors such as the N6.
