A tragic crash on the N2 just outside Ermelo, before reaching Camden, has claimed one life and left another person seriously injured.

The collision, which involved a side tipper truck and a bakkie, occurred earlier today under circumstances that are still being investigated. Emergency services arrived on scene to find severe damage to both vehicles, with one occupant trapped inside the wreckage.

Rescue teams were forced to use saws and grinders to cut through twisted metal in order to free the trapped person. Despite their efforts, one individual was declared dead at the scene. Another was stabilised and rushed to hospital for further medical treatment.

The recovery process and clean-up operation led to significant traffic disruptions along this stretch of the N2, with motorists experiencing delays while authorities worked to clear the roadway.

The N2 is a key freight corridor linking Mpumalanga to KwaZulu-Natal and other parts of the country, and crashes involving heavy vehicles often have a major impact on traffic flow and logistics operations.

In a separate incident, vehicles were also involved in a collision on the N2 near the entrance to Mkhondo. Details surrounding that crash remain limited, and the cause has not yet been confirmed.

Authorities are expected to investigate both incidents to determine the exact circumstances leading to the collisions.

Motorists travelling along the N2 in the Ermelo and Mkhondo areas are urged to proceed with caution, remain patient in traffic queues, and allow emergency and recovery teams the space they need to work safely.
