One Killed, Three Injured in Horrific N1 Crash Between Touws River and Laingsburg

A devastating crash between a double cab bakkie and a truck on the N1 at Matjiesfontein, between Touws River and Laingsburg, claimed one life and left three others injured — one of them seriously.

According to the truck driver involved in the crash, the bakkie driver lost control and veered into his lane.

He said that the bakkie came to his lane and he tried moving to the shoulder but couldn’t avoid him completely.

The bakkie’s driver was trapped in the wreckage and had to be cut free using the Jaws of Life. Emergency services worked tirelessly on the scene.

A witness who arrived moments after the crash told SA Trucker that rescue teams spent over three hours extricating the victims.

“It was hectic. EMS was on the scene for hours. The bakkie was mangled badly, and they really had to work hard to get everyone out,” he said.

Western Cape emergency services confirmed that one person was declared dead on the scene, while three others sustained injuries.
