One person was killed and two others were left in a serious condition after a truck collided with their vehicle on Meadows Road in Grassland, Bloemfontein on Saturday night.
At approximately 7.45pm paramedics from ER24, Fire and Provincial Emergency Services arrived on the scene where they found the vehicle partially wedged underneath the truck. Upon further assessment, they found that one of the passengers sustained fatal injuries. Sadly, there was nothing that paramedics could do for him and he was declared dead on the scene. The driver and another passenger were found trapped inside the vehicle. Both were in a serious condition and sustained several lacerations as well as possible head and chest injuries.
The local fire department had to use hydraulic rescue tools to remove the roof from the vehicle in order to obtain access to the trapped victims. Once freed, paramedics were able to stabilise them on the scene before they were rushed through to Pelonomi Hospital for further medical care.
All three men are believed to be between 30 and 45 years old. The driver of the truck was not injured in this incident.
The exact cause of the collision is not yet known. Police attended the scene and will conduct an investigation.
