One of eight Krugersdorp attack victims was raped by 10 men

Police Minister, Bheki Cele has confirmed that eight women were gang raped by a group of armed men near a Krugersdorp mine dump where they were busy shooting a music video.

More disheartening is that one of the victims was simultaneously gang raped by 10 of the suspects.

12 men and 10 women were present at the video shoot when the attackers pounced. Males were forced to strip-off their clothes at gunpoint, and shots were fired as the armed suspects went on to rape the women.

The youngest amongst the assaulted women is aged just 19.

About 20 men wearing Basotho blankets and balaclavas allegedly fired several shots in the air while ordering everyone to lay down.

Police spokesperson Brenda Muridili says a production company was shooting a music video on Thursday when they were attacked by a group of armed men.

The men allegedly fired several shots in the air and ordered everyone to lay down before raping the women in nearby bushes.

“Eight of the victims were allegedly raped by the suspects before robbing them of their belongings,” says Muridili.

Provincial police commissioner Elias Mawela has mobilised maximum resources to hunt down the perpetrators.

Meanwhile, President Cyril Ramaphosa says he has instructed Police Minister Bheki Cele to leave no stone unturned in bringing the men to book.

He was speaking at the ANC policy conference in Nasrec on Friday morning.

“This morning we just heard of the horrible incident where a number of women in our country were abused.

“We have directed the minister of police and law enforcement agencies to immediately embark on this to make sure that the perpetrators of this crime are apprehended and dealt with. Comrade Bheki Cele has already been there, and we are following up on this horrible incident,” said Ramaphosa.

During a press briefing this afternoon, Bheki Cele revealed that the majority of the women were local, from ‘either Alex or Soweto’.

He confirmed that three arrests have, at least, been made this afternoon.
