Shockingly, the truck driver had fled the scene before authorities could arrive.

The crash involved three occupants from the two vehicles.

Tragically, one was declared dead on the scene due to severe injuries.

Another passenger was critically injured and trapped inside the wreckage.

Pietermaritzburg firefighters, equipped with specialised hydraulic rescue tools donated by Mi7 National Group, spent two gruelling hours extricating the patient.

Once freed, the individual was stabilised by another emergency service provider, placed on a ventilator, and rushed to the hospital.

The third patient, also in a serious condition, received advanced life support interventions from Mi7 medics before being transported to a medical facility for further care.

Authorities are investigating the incident and actively searching for the truck driver who abandoned the scene.

Our thoughts are with the family of the deceased during this difficult time, and we wish the injured a speedy and full recovery.
