A patient was tragically killed when an ambulance collided with a Volvo articulated truck on the N6 road next to the Kwetyana Location outside East London on Thursday.
Eastern Cape Transport Department spokesperson Makhaya Komisa said the driver of the ambulance and a patient sustained serious injuries.
He said the ambulance had been ferrying three patients at the time.
“Transport MEC Xolile Nqatha conveyed his sincere condolences to the bereaved family and wished the injured passengers a speedy recovery”, Komisa said.
“It is alleged that the Volvo truck was driving behind the ambulance towards East London from the Gauteng side,” he said.
“According to the Volvo truck driver, the ambulance made an indication to the left side and suddenly made a U-Turn just as the truck was passing on the right-hand side and they collided onto the oncoming traffic side.”
