A 47-year-old man was fatally injured after being run over by the rear tyres of a fully loaded trailer at the intersection of Todd and Russom Streets in Verulam, KwaZulu-Natal, on Friday morning.
According to Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) spokesperson Prem Balram, passing motorists alerted their Operations Centre at approximately 10:46, requesting urgent assistance for the severely injured pedestrian.
“Reaction Officers and RUSA Paramedics were dispatched immediately and found the man lying on the pavement,” said Balram. “He sustained a pelvic fracture, bilateral compound fractures to both legs, and a degloving injury to his left calf.”
RUSA paramedics stabilised the critically injured man on the scene before he was transported by ambulance to Osindisweni Government Hospital. Despite the efforts to save his life, Balram confirmed that he was declared deceased upon arrival.
