PETITION BY CONCERNED ZIMBABWEAN TRUCK DRIVERS IN SOUTH AFRICA TO THE MINISTER OF POLICE HONOURABLE BHEKI CELE

We the undersigned, respectfully show our concerns as Zimbabwean truck drivers in South Africa to your ministry asking for your intervention pending the threats of violence made on the recent demonstrations that occurred at Mooi River and Van Reenen Pass respectively.

Warnings and threats are continuing to circulate on social media pointing out that our existence in the road freight and logistics no longer suits some isolated individuals of the society. Such attacks pose a great threat to us and we fear for our lives if it continues to happen with little or no police intervention at all.

We can’t wait until we start losing our lives as experienced in similar attacks in year 2009.

We humbly request your ministry to take necessary steps to ensure that our safety is not compromised as any other habitants as per constitutional mandate. We ask you as concerned drivers to further condone threats of violence towards us and ensure us that our safety is guaranteed.
