side tipper truck crash

A side tipper truck crashed into a tuck shop completely demolishing it in Marite just outside Bushbuckridge on Monday afternoon around 17h00.

The truck driver apparently lost control of his vehicle while travelling on the R40 from Phalaborwa. The truck went straight into an unused tuck shop and completely destroyed it.

Some members of the Marite community said that they were relieved that the business was no longer in use.

“It would have been a disaster if this happened a few years ago because the tuck shop used to be very busy,” said one community member.

“Locals used to buy and hang around the tuck shop, it could have been worse,” added the community member.

Only the truck driver sustained minor injuries in the accident.

The R40 road is one of the busiest roads in the region with side tipper trucks using it from Phalaborwa mines to Maputo. The locals have always complained about deadly accidents involving side-tipper trucks.
