Pics: Durban Metro policeman killed in drive-by shooting

Durban – An off duty Durban Metro policeman have been killed in a drive-by shooting on the R102 between the Canelands and Verulam intersection on Monday afternoon.

Reaction Unit South Africa’s Pram Balram said RUSA officers rushed to the scene after receiving several calls about a drive-by shooting in progress around 16h42.

“On arrival Reaction Officers found a blue Toyota Corolla in the center median. The driver was found slumped over the passenger seat,” said Balram.

He sustained multiple gunshot wounds and died at the scene.

“According to witnesses the deceased was travelling on the southbound lane when the occupants of a white VW Golf 1 opened fire on his vehicle. His vehicle was shot no less than 10 times. A firearm belonging to the deceased was found on the floor of his vehicle,” added Balram.

The motive for the shooting has not been established at this stage.
