Traffic was heavily impacted on the N1 this afternoon after a serious crash involving a heavy motor vehicle between Mookgophong and Mokopane. The incident happened around 13h30 on Saturday, 13 December 2025, and has resulted in two northbound lanes being completely blocked.

According to the Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety, the overturned truck is still obstructing the roadway, forcing authorities to implement temporary closures and urgent detours while emergency services work on clearing the scene.

Motorists heading north from Mokopane were advised to exit the N1 at Mokopane, take the R101 toward Mookgophong, and then re-enter the N1 southbound after Mookgophong to continue toward Kranskop.

Drivers travelling from the Kranskop side were also advised to divert via the R101 to bypass the affected stretch.

The department confirmed that the cause of the accident is still under investigation, and details regarding injuries have not yet been released. Recovery teams remain on site and are expected to be busy for some time, given the size of the vehicle and the extent of the blockage.

Authorities have urged road users to be patient, follow instructions from officials on the ground, and exercise caution, especially as traffic volumes continue to build during the festive period.
